A glorious Brisbane Sunday spent on the rooftop of one of the coolest bars in town surrounded by gorgeous people and an endless flow of delectable finger food and colourful cocktails? What blogger wouldn’t jump at the opportunity?!
Last Sunday I was lucky enough to be invited to the Limes Hotel official relaunch party for their Rooftop Bar and Cinema. Arriving at about 3pm we headed straight up the elevator to be welcomed by artificial lawn underfoot, a DJ warming up the crowd, Chandon beach balls bobbling about in the giant spas on the western side and a cascading hanging garden behind the bar on the eastern. Mango and Blue cocktails, Moet with fruit and mint and G&Ts were being passed around to gorgeous girls in Camilla and towering wedges. Guys were dressed in preppy on-trend shorts and boat shoes matched with fabulous kooky-print collared shirts. It was a visual feast! And then there was the food…
Chunky steak meat pies with smoky barbeque sauce and mini gourmet hotdogs were followed by insanely delicious house-made pork sausage rolls with sweet tomato relish and baby herbs. The pastry was so flaky and the pork sausage so tasty and dense it was hard not to have two…or three…or potentially four.
There were creamy field-mushroom arancini balls with a seriously crunchy outer shell served with tangy aioli as well as hommus and eggplant tartlets, mini beef cheeseburgers on perfectly glazed brioche buns, honey soy chicken shashlicks and mini home-style strawberry and lemonade popsicles (the flavours of which impressed a sensory ideal of 50’s America).
Then there was the early-evening entertainment. Synchronised swimmers with perfectly gelled hair and water-ready make-up amused and splashed the crowd with their fun and innovative routine (anyone who can display swimming and choreography talent in a shallow spa deserves some serious applause!). It was the perfect way to relaunch the ‘spa’ design feature of the Limes Rooftop. After that it was back to the flowing cocktails and champagne until the sun set behind the city skyline and the guests could enjoy the neon ambient lighting of the bar in its full glory.
The whole revamped space embraces the Queenslander within – it’s open and airy so that is gets the late afternoon sun, provides lazy lounge-like pillow-topped benches around the parameter for when the feet start to ache and showcases that quirky-chic enviro trend with greenery and faux-lushness. I can’t wait for a Wednesday movie night with drinks, cheese and nibbles – all enjoyed from the luxury of the bubbling spa. Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a winter evening!
