I don’t know about you but I have been seriously crushing on Aussie model Bambi Northwood-Blyth of late. With her healthy, toned physique, bronzed skin and signature half-top-knot ‘do she embodies that perfect Australian beach babe image – and from what I’ve read she couldn’t be more down to earth.
At only 23 years young, she has already walked for Chanel, Balenciaga and Giambattista Valli, has graced the glossy covers of Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and Marie Claire, has her own clothing range B.BAM (stocked in General Pants) and last year became one of the new faces of Impulse. Oh and she’s also happily married to former Ksubi designer Dan Single.
4 LIFE LESSONS WE CAN LEARN FROM BAMBI NORTHWOOD-BLYTH
We all love an Aussie success story and even more so when they seem to be truly genuine. I think we could all learn a thing or two from the girl with the Bambi tattoo…
1. Look after your body
“Lots of sleep, lots of walking, lots of water, lots of fruit and vegetables.”
As a model, the pressure to stay in shape always seems to be rife with controversy. But for Bambi, a Type 1 diabetic since she was 12, the right food and exercise is crucial. It’s about balance with fresh juices and smoothies, salads and proteins and dark chocolate (a high antioxidant treat) on the shopping list. Exercise-wise, it’s all high intensity cardio workouts. Oh and always wear sunblock.
Long hours, working hard and putting pressures on the body means you also need to nurture it with fresh, healthy, nutrient dense foods, exercise AND plenty of rest. Also make sure you drink at least 2-3 litres of water a day to stay hydrated.
2. Travel often
“I like to ADVENTURE!”
When she isn’t visiting her hometown of Melbourne or babeing out on Bondi with her husband, she is wanderlusting her way around the beaches of Bali or exploring the diversity of India, making new discoveries with her doe eyes wide open.
Travel and new experience opens your mind and broadens your perspective. Go to places you’ve never been, meet new people and embrace the culture to know more, appreciate more and live more.
3. Have fun
“300 rolls of Polaroid film, disposable cameras and crazy fun props like bubble guns, funny knicker-underpants and confetti canons.”
If her instagram is anything to go by this chick knows how to enjoy life. Sun, surf, leisurely bike rides and relaxed, tomboy get-ups – it’s all about embracing the things that make you happy. Prioritsing happiness and the things you love doing makes you more tolerant and patient in daily life and you’re able to focus on the positives instead of the negatives.
Also, don’t be afraid to get ‘silly’ once in a while – one of Bambi’s B.BAM shoots with her sister was achieved with only the aforementioned props and Polaroids. It could unlock creative potential you never knew you had.
4. Be impulsive
“I’m a very impulsive person period”.
Sometimes acting on impulse can lead to things you might never have envisaged. It’s certainly how Bambi got to know her husband Dan. Meeting him at 18 at a nightclub she literally followed her heart (and acted on impulse!) and followed him to New Zealand the very next day.
From an early age we restrict our impulsive tendencies and are taught to consider the consequences or risks first. But sometimes we can over-analyse things and as a result opportunities pass us by. Trust your instinct, more often than not it’s right.
BAMBI & DAN’S LATEST VIDEO FOR IMPULSE
The adorable couple recently shot some footage for Impulse’s latest Valentines Day campaign – beautifully filmed and edited, it captures all of the aforementioned “lessons” in motion. Embrace the things you love, travel and take the time to enjoy yourself with someone who makes you happy. Check it out below:
Are you fangirling Bambi as much as I am right now?
This post is sponsored by Unilever. All views are my own – and yes I own a bottle of Bambi’s Impulse scent, Merely Musk. It’s currently taken up residence in my gym bag and is great for quick spritz pre or post workout!
